CLINTON – A three-year-old girl died in a car accident Wednesday due to what officers believe was an improperly fastened car seat.

According to Clinton Police Chief Bill Chilson, Marisol Isabel Gutierrez died in a crash that occurred at approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday. She was seated just behind the driver, Joseph Dickson, who was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Witness reports say that Dickson was driving a red Grand Am west bound on 1800 N. and approximately 1100 West in Clinton when the vehicle veered over into an east bound lane. The Grand Am then crashed head-on into a white Dodge Durango. The cause of the accident is still unknown.

The driver of the Dodge Durango, Amy Bair, was also taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Mariah Gutierrez, an 18-month-old who was riding in a rear-facing car seat on the back seat of the Grand Am, was taken to the hospital and released that same night.
