SALT LAKE CITY – These backup singers are no slouches.
Farmington singer/songwriter Cori Connors will perform with the choir Utah Voices on Nov. 30 from 8-10 p.m. at Libby Gardner Concert Hall in Salt Lake City. Connors will be a special guest for the group’s “Home for the Holidays” concert, and will perform some of her signature numbers with the choir serving as backup.
“It should be a very fun concert,” said Connors. “I love that choir, and I love singing with them.”
The choir, which includes several Davis County members, holds a holiday concert as a regular part of their performing season. Connors, along with Mark Robinette, Kelly DeHaan and Merlyn Schofield, will join the choir for seven or eight songs.
“I’m really tickled to do it,” said Connors. “Libby Gardner Hall is so cool.”
Of course, it won’t be easy. Connors, Robinette and the others are also playing three concerts at the Farmington Arts Center that week, with the second one set for Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. Once that’s completed, she and the other performers will have to rush to make it down to Salt Lake on time.
“Saturday will be crazy, but very fun,” she said.
No matter how crazy it gets, Connors said she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
“It’s the kind of thing where you pinch yourself and say ‘I don’t have to pay to do this? Someone’s actually paying me?’” she said. “I love it.”
Audiences tend to love it as well, enough so that it’s sometimes not easy to get a seat at one of Connors’ performances.
“All my concerts sold out before Thanksgiving last year,” said Connors. “So if you’re thinking of grabbing someone you kinda like, or even love a littleЙor love a lot, and coming for a warm fuzzy kind of musical night, then I guess I want to suggest you order your tickets pronto.”
Tickets for the performance are $12, and can be purchased either at the door the night of the performance or online at utahvoices.org. They will be available in Will Call at 7:30 p.m. the night of the concert.
Connors’ CDs, including the recently re-released “Out of the Blue,” will also be available for purchase in the lobby during the concert’s intermission.
