FARMINGTON – Brian Lane Harris will be sentenced on Jan. 9, after pleading no contest to shooting his girlfriend in March 2012.
Harris, 24, of Layton was in court last week, but said he does not remember the shooting.
On March 21, 2012, Harris shot his girlfriend, Kayla Lane, at their home.
He was later shot in the head by a Layton police officer after he failed to stop when so ordered. Officers had already tasered him twice.
Police said they shot him because they were concerned Harris was heading back inside the couple’s home to get a gun. The officer was later cleared by the Davis County Attorney’s Office.
Harris was found competent to stand trial in July.
A no-contest plea means Harris admits prosecutors have enough evidence to prove he shot Lane, even though he doesn’t remember the event.
