BOUNTIFUL – LDS Church members don’t get visits from General Authorities to stake conferences and other meetings as much as they used to.

However, members of the Centerville Sons of the Utah Pioneers (SUP) will get a glimpse into such visits and associations Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

Standing chapter president Clarence R. Bishop will “regale us with rare remembrances of his association with familiar brethren” of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a press release from the chapter said.

The meeting will be held at the Wight House Reception Center, 95 N. Main, Bountiful. Cost is $12.50 for dinner.

Bishop was the founding director of the Lamanite Student Placement Program operated by the LDS Church for many years.

He reported directly to Spencer W. Kimball, who was passionate in his love of the Lamanite (American Indian) people. He also associated with warmly-remembered church leaders such as LeGrand Richards, Mark E. Peterson and A. Theodore Tuttle.

However, in addition to Bishop’s remembrances of the above four who have passed on, he will also share associations with Elder Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve, the press release said.
