Niedzwiecki heads to trial

FARMINGTON – A former charter school basketball coach  is heading to trial accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.

Stephen Paul Niedzwiecki, 34, will face a four-day trial beginning Feb. 4, 2014.

Niedzwiecki was a teacher and basketball coach at Jefferson Academy in Kaysville, when he allegedly had a relationship with a then 15-year-old girl. She is now 17.

He is charged with eight counts of first-degree felony forcible sodomy, one count of first-degree attempted rape, and two counts of  second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.

Niedzwiecki pleaded not guilty in June.
