BOUNTIFUL – Travel back into Bountiful’s past.

Author and Bountiful native Max Zimmer will be holding a reading and book signing on Oct. 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the main room of the Golden Years Senior Activity Center in Bountiful. Zimmer will discuss his new trilogy, “If Where You’re Going Isn’t Home,” which follows a young man who grows up in Bountiful in the 1950s and 1960s.

“I kind of wrote the kid modeled on myself, but he very quickly became the kind of kid I wished I had been,” said Zimmer.  “He took me by the hand and said, ‘Let me show you how to do this.’”

Zimmer’s character, Shake Tauffler, dreams of growing up to be a jazz trumpeter. Marv Zimmer, the author’s brother, will perform well-known jazz numbers at the Tuesday event. Zimmer will also appear on KUER’s “Nighttime Jazz” program, airing at 8 p.m. tonight.

The first book in the series, “Journey,” was released in 2012. The second book, “Of the World,” was released this past summer.

The Golden Years Senior Activity Center is located at 726 S. 100 East in Bountiful.
