FARMINGTON — A West Bountiful man accused of stabbing his teenage cousin was ruled incompetent to stand trial.

A hearing was held in 2nd District Court on Tuesday for Mitchell Dean Howe, 23, charged with first degree felony attempted murder.

Howe was taken into custody in June after police were called to a home in West Bountiful, where they found a 13-year-old had been stabbed with a large knife in the torso as the boy slept. The boy had been visiting the Howe residence.

Howe remains at the Utah State Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Several mental health evaluations have been conducted on Howe. The latest indicates he is still incompetent to stand trial.

Another court hearing has been set for Feb. 11.
