WOODS CROSS — Only a few games remain in the girls’ soccer season, making each game more important than the last.
Picking up wins last Thursday afternoon were Davis, Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross high schools, which beat Layton, Syracuse, Clearfield and Judge Memorial, respectively, to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Davis shuts down Layton, 2-0
Ireland Dunn scored both of the Lady Darts’ goals against Layton in Region 1, claiming a 2-0 victory over the Lancers.
Dunn’s two goals gives her 15 on the season.
Sarah Beecher picked up the shutout at the net, her seventh of the season. Beecher has matched her season total from last year.
Vikings score five goalsdrop Titans 5-0
After toughing it through a scoreless first half, Viewmont netted five goals in the second half to earn its ninth region win.
Five different Lady Vikings scored a goal in the win. Among them was Abbie Flandro, Ellee Layton, Kaitlyn Palmer, Lindsey Essig and Madison Mitamura all scored, and Haley Johnson picked up the shutout at the net.
Bountiful wins Region 6 crown with 1-0 win over Clearfield
The Lady Braves girls’ soccer team picked up their fifth win in a row last Thursday, taking down Clearfield 1-0 on a Lauren Hess goal.
Hess’s goal was her fourth of the season. Charity Cole played well at the net, earning her sixth shutout of the season.
The win for Bountiful also meant the team earned the Region 6 title outright with one game remaining in the season.
Lady Wildcats pick up important win, beat Judge 4-1
Woods Cross needed a victory over Judge Memorial in order to remain in the playoff race in Region 6.
Against Judge Memorial last Thursday, the Wildcats earned a 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs, placing them in a second place tie with East and Clearfield.
Each team was 9-4 in Region 6 play before Tuesday’s respective games.
Kyra Fawcett led the team with two goals scored in the game, and Katie Goodwin and Lauren Gibson each netted a single goal in the win.
Woods Cross has won six of its last eight games overall.
Both Bountiful and Woods Cross faced each other Tuesday afternoon in the final game of the regular season for both teams.
Viewmont faced off against Northridge Tuesday, marking its final game of the regular season as well.
Davis will face Northridge Thursday afternoon at Angel Street Park in Kaysville.
