South Davis Composite finishes first in biking race

PARK CITY — The South Davis Composite high school mountain biking team finished in first place in Division II after last Saturday’s race.

The race, which took place in Park City, also saw the North Davis Area Composite team finish in third place.

In Division I, Davis High School finished ninth out of 14 high school teams.

Leading the South Davis Composite team was Zach Peterson, who finished second in the Varsity Boys’ race. Peterson was the top finisher among all racers for the South Davis team.

Devry Grovum placed third in the sophomore Division II race, and Ryan King and Devin Smith finished ninth and 10th, respectively, for South Davis.

Matt Lerdahl and Kason Perkes finished 2-3 in the JV Boys’ race, which saw North Davis Composite’s Hayden Sampson finish first.

Sampson was the only racer for North Davis to place first in any race.

Jenna Johnston placed fourth in the Junior Varsity girls’ race, the top female finisher for the North Davis team.

For Davis High School, Lance Packer and Payton Gillard placed in the top 40 in the Frosh Boys Division I race, and Jillian Tanner placed 12th in the Frosh Girls’ race.

South Davis Composite’s point total of 3,958 is 244 points higher than the North Davis Area Composite team, currently in second place.
