Wildcats, Braves, Vikings win, Darts lose in volleyball

WOODS CROSS — Women’s prep volleyball saw wins by three Clipper area teams but Davis took a loss.

Woods Cross stayed unbeaten in Region 6 play with a four-set win over Clearfield last Thursday.

Bountiful took care of East in a three-set sweep, and Viewmont won its nonregion match over Cottonwood.

Davis lost a close match to Fremont in three sets.

Wildcats pick up sixth region win in a row, beat Clearfield 3-1

Bryli Knell of Woods Cross picked up 53 assists against Clearfield in the Wildcats’ volleyball match last Thursday.

The result was a four-set win for Woods Cross, which improved its record to 6-0 in Region 6 play.

The win also kept the Wildcats at first place in the region.

After claiming a 25-22 win in the first set, Lexi Lewis, McKenzie Bird, and Jessica Jensen, among several others, helped the Wildcats go up 2-0 with a 25-15 win in the second set.

The Wildcats dropped the third set 25-21, but bounced back to claim the final set 25-17.

Lewis picked up the last two kills in the match for Woods Cross.

Bountiful sweeps Leopards, 3-0

The Bountiful Braves  picked up an important win last Thursday, downing East  at home in three sets.

The win kept the  Braves one game ahead of Cyprus for the No. 4 seed in Region 6.

Bountiful dominated the first two sets, winning 25-16 and 25-18. The third game was much closer; however, the Braves took the set 25-20 to complete the sweep.

Viewmont sweeps Cottonwood, 3-0

The Vikings volleyball team put an end to their losing streak last Thursday, sweeping the Cottonwood Colts at home 3-0 behind Amanda Varley and Emily Madsen.

Varley finished the match with 10 kills, five digs and five total blocks, and Madsen added seven kills, five aces and three total blocks.

The Vikings, who have yet to win a region match, picked up their first sweep since beating Granger 3-0 on Aug. 29.

Davis loses to Fremont in three-game sweep

It’s been a tough season for Davis this season.

After picking up a four-set win over Syracuse last Tuesday, the Darts lost to Fremont in a three-game sweep.

The Darts fell to 3-3 in Region 1, alternating wins and losses in its last six region matches.

Games this week

Woods Cross will put its unbeaten record to the test against Cyprus Thursday, and Bountiful will play host to Highland the same day.

After Davis and Viewmont battled Tuesday, the Vikings will travel to Northridge to face the Knights in Region 1.

Davis’ next match will be against Northridge on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
