WOODS CROSS – The Woods Cross Wildcats girls’ soccer team was looking to rebound from a tough 2-1 loss at the hands of Bountiful last Thursday.
After Eden Jacobsen kicked in five goals and Ashlyn Farnes added a hat trick, the Wildcats rebounded well as they beat the Cougars 10-0.
“Sometimes you get these games where the score really isn’t an indicator of what happened,” said Wildcats coach Dave Newman. “This was one of those games. We did some things well, but we have some tough games coming up and we still have to get to work on our mistakes.”
Jacobsen and Farnes alternated the first three goals for Woods Cross. Jacobsen scored her first two goals in the third and 11th minute, and Farnes’ goal came in the sixth minute for a 3-0 lead.
By the 17th minute, the Wildcats were up 5-0.
Two more goals by Jacobsen in the 39th minute, as well as extra time, gave the Wildcats a 7-0 halftime lead.
Farnes finished her hat trick in the second half, netting a goal in the 44th minute. Before Jacobsen could knock in her fifth goal of the game, Malorie Ward scored her first goal of the season in the 46th minute.
Kyra Fawcett added a goal in the first half to round out the scoring for Woods Cross.
“I’m excited to get the second half of our schedule underway,” said Newman. “We have some tough games, starting with Clearfield on Thursday, and I think we can really put ourselves in a situation to pick up a win there and move forward.”
Jacobsen’s five goals brought her season total up to 13 goals. Farnes’ hat trick also brought her season total to 13.
Woods Cross will face Clearfield, which lost to the Wildcats 2-1 on Aug. 20, Thursday at Clearfield High School.
