WOODS CROSS – For every high school except Highland and Mountain Crest, which played Thursday night, the football season begins tonight.
A full slate of games are set to take place at football fields across the State, and some top matchups are in place for a few local teams that will make the opening week exciting for all fans.
The Clipper’s Game of the Week has Bountiful traveling to Lone Peak, pitting a pair of Top 15 teams in the state against each other. Bountiful’s 31-21 win last year gives the Braves the overall edge 7-6; however, Lone Peak has won six of the last nine meetings.
Davis and Woods Cross will also be on the road tonight. The Darts travel to Copper Hills for a first time matchup between the two schools. Copper Hills has won five games in its last two seasons combined.
Woods Cross will face Maple Mountain for a first-time matchup between the Wildcats and the Golden Eagles. The game will feature two teams that made the 4A playoffs in 2012. Maple Mountain was eliminated in the first round, and Woods Cross was beaten by Timpview in the quarterfinals.
Viewmont High School will be the only school to host an opponent in south Davis County tonight as the Vikings will be at home to take on the Bonneville Lakers. The Vikings play host to only two of its first six opponents to open the season, the second being its Region 1 opener against Northridge on Sept. 13.
Kickoff for all four games is 7 p.m.
