CENTERVILLE — A fourth-grade student from Stewart Elementary School has won an essay contest sponsored by the Centerville chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.

Macy Anderson’s essay was chosen from among six first-place winners from participating elementary schools. Each year, the Centerville chapter of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers invites students from the Centerville/Farmington area to write an essay about a pioneer ancestor or a person or event in pioneer history. Anderson won $100 and a certificate for her efforts.

First place winners from each of the six participating elementary schools in the Centerville/Farmington area won $20 each. Those winners include: Brenden Tornavacca, J.A. Taylor Elementary School; Megan Miler, Reading Elementary School; Jacob Bastian, Centerville Elementary School; Marinn Saylor, Eagle Bay Elementary School; and, Elizabeth Orth, Farmington Elementary School.

There were 450 participants.
