WOODS CROSS — Local fishing holes are reporting fair to good fishing conditions in the waning weeks of summer.

Fishing in Davis County waters remains either “good” or “fair” in the latest fishing report released by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

However, neither Bountiful Lake nor Farmington Pond have turned in recent reports, and the last update offered by either was on Aug. 9.

At Holmes Creek Reservoir in Layton, water levels are low, and different techniques are working for different fish.

For trout, reports are showing traditional baits (worms, PowerBait, etc.), spinners or wet flies are seeing success. Buzzbaits near shaded areas are working for bass, and boat fishing is being allowed for small, non-motorized boats.

The ramp, however, is only available to waterskiing club members. Walk-in access authorization numbers can be obtained for free online at wildlife.utah.gov/walkinaccess/authorization.php.

The Kaysville Ponds are reporting good fishing for small bluegill and bullhead trout. Eight-inch wipers were stocked into the ponds this season and anglers have reported catching them using small fish imitations such as jigs, spinners or Rapalas in white or silver colors.

Catfish angling has been successful at the Jensen Nature Park Pond in Syracuse, although some anglers have run into shoreline algae due to low water levels in certain spots.
