FARMINGTON – A preliminary hearing has been set for Stephanie Sloop, who is accused of killing her 4-year-old son Ethan Stacy in May of 2010.
Second District Court Judge Glen Dawson set Dec. 10-13 for the hearing, which will determine if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.
Stephanie Sloop, 30, and her husband Nathan Sloop, 34, are accused of killing Ethan and burying his body near Powder Mountain.
Nathan Sloop was in court last week, and a felony arraignment has been set for Aug. 13.
The Sloops each face charges of aggravated murder, second-degree felony child abuse, second-degree felony obstruction of justice and third-degree felony abuse or desecration of a body. Ethan had come to Utah to spend the summer with his mother., but the couple reported him missing ten days later. A 12-hour search led authorities to the boy’s grave, where they found his disfigured body.
The Davis County Attorney’s Office has not said if it will seek the death penalty for Stephanie Sloop.
