BOUNTIFUL — A construction worker who nearly cut his leg off with a power saw is expected to survive.
The accident happened Saturday about 11 a.m., at a home under construction at 1785 E. Maple Drive in Bountiful.
The man, who did not speak English, managed to tell dispatchers the address, then he asked them to hurry in Spanish, Bountiful Police Sgt. Andrew Bryson said.
Arriving officers found the man bleeding heavily.
The man had apparently been cutting wood on a porch on the third floor and had removed the guard from the circular saw he was using. The saw kicked back into the man’s upper thigh, cutting his leg to the bone and severing his femoral artery. One of the officers applied a tourniquet to slow the bleeding.
“We still don’t know why he removed the guard,” Bountiful Police Lt. Ed Biehler said on Tuesday morning.
The man was flown by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center.
On Tuesday, Biehler reported that the man is alive and is expected to survive. His identity was not released.
