BOUNTIFUL – Everyone loves classic cars.

Last weekend’s Coats for Kids Car Show, organized by the Bountiful Rotary Club, drew approximately 10,000 people interested in cars, good food and helping south Davis kids get winter clothes. The club estimates that approximately $30,000 was raised for coats, boots and gloves to help get local elementary students through next winter.

“It was the best car show we’ve ever had,” said Chris Simonsen, a member of the group. “The weather was just wonderful.”

Car show activities included a burnout exhibition, a cruisin’ parade, food booths and a variety of contests. According to Simonsen, one group of well-dressed attendees went from a wedding held Saturday morning straight to the car show.

“I told them they didn’t have to dress up for the car show, and they explained what had happened,” he said with a laugh. “I guess they had their wedding breakfast with us.”

Since all of the Rotary members volunteer their time, the only expenditures are those required to put on the car show. After that, all money goes toward vouchers for winter clothes.

“We did as well as last year, maybe a little better,” said Paul Summers, another member of the group. “We really appreciate the public and the city’s support.”
