On Thursday, June 6, at about 1:30 in the afternoon, I was traveling along 625 west Wildcat Way in Bountiful when I and about five or six other drivers came to a halt as we waited for two mother quail and about 15 or so tiny, tiny fuzzy baby quail to make their way across the road. All went well until about six of the little ones stopped in the road, confused and abandoned by the rest of the brood. They went this way, then that way, and then I wasn’t sure where they were when a young lady, who I believe to be a Woods Cross High student, pulled her car beside mine and said, “they’re by your car.”

At first I panicked, but she quickly volunteered to pull her car over and help me. Soon the other drivers did the same, and we worked together to catch the tiny birds and carry them safely to the other side of the road where the mother quails nervously clucked for their babies.

As I held and touched those tiny creatures I marveled at their fragile beauty, and I was grateful to be counted among those good people who so quickly put aside their busy schedules to help rescue some of God’s tiny creatures. Thank you, everyone.
