FARMINGTON — A Kaysville man who pleaded guilty to sex abuse of a child was sentenced last week to serve 201 days in the Davis County Jail, three years probation and enter a sex offender program.

Brandon Scott Cordero pleaded guilty in April to three second-degree felony counts of sex abuse of a child. Court documents say he admitted to inappropriately touching a girl younger than 14 at least three times between November 2010 and May 2012.

Second District Judge David Connors is considering whether to place Cordero in a sex offender program at the Northern Utah Correctional Center or into a private program.

Connors suspended a sentence of one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison for each count.

Cordero will be back in court on July 23, after Connors has had time to review documents on which sex offender program he believes would be appropriate for Cordero.

Cordero returned home from a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to face the charges. The abuse occurred before Cordero left and had nothing to do with his mission, church officials have said.
