TAYLORSVILLE — Neither Woods Cross nor Viewmont made it past last week in the opening rounds of the 4A and 5A softball playoffs.
By Thursday, both were eliminated by Bonneville and Brighton, respectively, and were out of playoff contention as quickly as they entered it.
Lady Braves drop game to Roy
The Bountiful softball team remained alive, if only for a moment, during Tuesday’s 4A softball playoffs. They had just taken down Springville in a 9-8 comeback win.
In the second game, however, Bountiful lost to Roy 8-5 and was eliminated from the softball playoffs in the 4A class.
After scoring a single run in extra innings to beat the Red Devils in the earlier game that day, Bountiful took that momentum into the next game by scoring two first-inning runs against Roy.
Roy took the lead in the bottom half of the first, however, and even though the Lady Braves tied the game later on, they weren’t able to take down the Lady Royals and were eliminated after an 8-5 loss.
Belle Stoddard, who won the previous game, powered the Lady Braves at the plate by hitting a home run. Bountiful scattered 10 hits, but fell behind for good after Roy scored three in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Davis stays alive with wins over Hunter, Taylorsville
The Davis softball team stayed alive in the 5A softball playoffs Tuesday, winning games against Hunter and Taylorsville.
The Darts’ first game against Hunter, which they won 14-5, saw the Lady Darts score 13 runs in the first two innings and cruise to an easy victory. Cheyenne Norton picked up the win inside the circle, and Breezy Roth hit a triple as part of a nine-hit attack. Davis was also aided by Hunter’s defense, which committed nine errors.
In the second game, a pitcher’s duel between Norton and Taylorsville’s Jaycie LeBaron only ended when Norton drove in teammate Peyton Yearke at the top of the eighth inning, and then shut down Taylorsville in the bottom half.
Davis faced region foe Weber on Wednesday afternoon. The score was unavailable at press time.
Lady Wildcats ousted by Lakers, 10-3
Woods Cross’ early loss in the softball playoffs didn’t deter the spirit last Thursday, even when they were down early in the game against Bonneville.
However, after closing the gap to 5-3 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats surrendered five runs to Bonneville, falling behind 10-3 and never recovering in the game.
Hanalee Robinson took the loss inside the circle, and Daphne Robinson hit a home run for Woods Cross.
Lady Vikings eliminated by Brighton after 9-5 loss
In a back-and-forth battle that saw two lead changes and a tie by the seventh inning, it was Viewmont’s opponent that got the runs needed to advance through the 5A softball bracket last Thursday.
Entering a 5-5 tie in the top the seventh, the Bengals scored four runs in their half of the seventh to break the game open and down the Lady Vikings 9-5.
Viewmont’s Staci Payne had the only extra-base hit for the Lady Vikings, and Eliza Thornley took the loss inside the circle.
