BOUNTIFUL — After the two baseball games saw the Woods Cross Wildcats narrowly defeat the Bountiful Braves, the two schools are set to finish their series Thursday afternoon.

The game will take place at Bountiful High School and first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Wildcats, who are 9-2 in Region 6 and 12-8 overall, have alternated wins and losses in their last four games since those first two wins against the Braves. They opened region play early this season, playing Highland and Cyprus in mid-March due to attending the Lions Tournament in the waning days of the month.

The Wildcats won seven straight to open Region 6 play, but dropped their first region game against Cyprus on April 19. With only a pair of games remaining after the Bountiful game, a win could put them in position for a region title and a top seed heading into the 4A baseball playoffs.

Woods Cross’ pitching staff is led by Quentin Foutz and Josh Cowley, who combined are 7-1 on the mound for the Wildcats. At the plate the team doesn’t display a lot of power С they have hit only three home runs. However, the Wildcats lead the region in runs scored and are second in runs allowed this season.

The Braves, at 6-5 in Region 6 and in the No. 3 spot heading into the final week of the season, have done the opposite since losing the first two games to the Wildcats. Since the second loss of the series, the Braves have won three of their last four games over Highland, Cyprus (which is currently in second place) and Clearfield, respectively. They played a game on Wednesday against East.

The Woods Cross team will finish its three-game set against Cyprus and Highland the following week, having already won the series and beaten out Clearfield for the season.

The Braves have split the first two games to Cyprus and have taken the first two games against Highland.

Ricky Medrano and Zac Muir lead the team with three wins each.

Muir has the hotter hand of the two, having picked up a pair of wins since opening the season at 1-2 on the mound.

Pitching match ups were not announced as of press time. However, Muir pitched in one of the two games for the Braves against Woods Cross. Foutz and Jake Kocherhans pitched in the initial two games against Bountiful for the Wildcats.
