KAYSVILLE — Watching Davis County athletes run fast and fly high, it’s hard not to believe that they have super powers.

Though track teams from all across the Wasatch Front took place in last week’s Super Meet events, held over a two-day period at Davis High School, several Davis County athletes managed to fly, throw, or race to the top spot in their respective events.

Overall, the Davis High teams also managed to claim first in both of their respective meets, with the girls finishing off with a total of 170 points and the boys coming in a day later with 198.5. The Viewmont girls and boys teams took third in each of their meets, earning 81 and 92 points respectively.

Individually, Bountiful High’s Makira Kuan took first place in the high jump by clearing 5’6”, a height that also snagged her recognition for the performance of the meet. Davis High’s Brooke Jensen was named the athlete of the meet, taking home the gold in both the 100m and 300m hurdles (15.25 and 46.25, respectively) as well as taking part in the winning 4x100m relay team.

Other Davis County gold-medal winners at the girl’s meet included Viewmont High’s Bailee Whitworth in the 100m dash (12.76), Davis High’s Candace Eddy in both the 800m (2:23.68) and 1600m runs (5:12.62), and Syracuse High’s Jessica Pauni in the shot put (37’2”).

Davis High relay teams also swept the top spots at all four relays, including the 4x100m (50.05), the medley relay (4:27.31), the 4x400m relay (4:06.13), and the 4x800m (10:07.0).

At the boy’s meet, held the following day, Davis High’s Tony Hill took first place in the shot put (58’3”) a throw that was also named the performance of the meet. The athlete of the meet was Syracuse High’s Tyrell Yardley, who was gold in both the 100m (10.95) and 200m (21.93), as well as being a member of the winning 4x100 relay team. Yardley’s time on the 200m dash also set a new meet record (the original was held by Jake Garlick of West Jordan).

Other Davis County first place winners include Davis High’s Jonathon Ferguson in the long jump (21’1”), Northridge High’s Skylar Withy in the javelin (160’11), and Viewmont High’s Mason Body in the discus (152’11) for field events. Viewmont High’s Spencer Black also won gold in the 110m hurdles (15.71), and Davis High’s Seth Gutzwiller in both the 1600m (4:33.84) and 3200m runs (9:57.05).

In the relay races, the Bountiful team ran off with first place in the medley (3:41.55), the Syracuse High team took the 4x100m (44.33), and Davis High won the 4x800m (8:40.1).

Several Davis County athletes also took second and third place in events at both super meets. Names and results for all second and third place winners can be found online at www.davisclipper.co-m/pages/news_sports.
