FARMINGTON — A former Davis County Sheriff’s deputy will be in 2nd District Court next week on two counts of felony theft.
Christopher K. Sorensen, 38, was charged in late February with theft after allegedly printing fake bar codes and putting them on merchandise and attempting to purchase the items at sale prices.
On Jan. 11, Sorensen walked into the Centerville Walmart store, took a television from the display shelf and then tried to return it for cash with a receipt, according to Assistant Centerville Police Chief Paul Child. When store employees wouldn’t give him a refund, he walked out of the store with the television without paying for it, Child said.
Then, on Jan. 14, Sorensen allegedly attached fake bar code to a safe so it would ring up at a sale price, but ran out of the sore with it when the fake bar code didn’t work, Child said.
Police believe Sorensen was working with someone else on the fake bar codes, but haven’t identified that individual yet.
Sorensen was fired from the Davis County Sheriff’’s office in 2003 for violating policy after a seven-year career on the force.
His court hearing is set for March 11.
