Classic car destroyed, but Knight is walking

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful council member John Marc Knight is facing a slow and painful recovery after he broke his back and two ribs in an automobile accident on Feb. 21.

Knight was driving a 1928 Model A hotrod he built from scratch to the AutoRama at the South Towne Expoisition Center in Sandy.

He usually would have used a trailer, but decided to make the drive, said Bountiful Mayor Joe Johnson. Heavy snow was falling.

While Knight was driving on I-15, the clamp to his radiator hose broke, spewing steam everywhere, said his wife Denise Knight.

He pulled into the emergency lane, but the steam was so thick, the driver of the driver behind him couldn’t see Knight’s vehicle and ran into the back of it.

The suburban that crashed into Knight’s car was carrying another classic car to the show, Johnson said.

Knight remained in the hospital until Sunday, but is now at home.

He will be in a brace for at least 12 weeks, Denise Knight said.

The good news is that there was no spinal cord injury, but he’ll have to stay close to home for a while and will be in pain, Denise Knight said.

He has promised to rebuild the car once he’s recovered.
