NORTH SALT LAKE — A preliminary hearing has been set for April 9 for the former charter school basketball coach accused of sexually abusing a child.
Stephen Paul Niedzwiecki, 33, of Bountiful, will be in court on eight counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault.
Niedzwiecki allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl who attended Jefferson Academy, where Niedzwiecki taught in 2011. The girl was a member of the basketball team Niedzwiecki coached and was also tutored by him, police said.
He was arrested on Dec. 4 by Bountiful police after her parents contacted them.
At the time of his arrest, Niedzwiecki was teaching at Quest Academy and was an adjunct professor of anthropology at Weber State University. He is no longer teaching at either facility, officials said.
