WOODS CROSS — Bountiful, Davis and Viewmont high school all claimed girls’ basketball region titles Tuesday night by winning their respective games to close out the season.
Bountiful, which took down Woods Cross Tuesday night to claim Region 6, capped off its season by winning its sixth straight game.Viewmont’s win was its 12th straight, allowing it to claim the Region 2 title with a 10-0 region record.
Davis’ win was the sixth in its last seven games. They downed Fremont for an 8-2 Region 1 record.
Lady Braves sweep series, beat Wildcats for region title
Despite nearly losing the lead late in the game against Woods Cross Tuesday night, the Bountiful Lady Braves girls’ basketball team was still able to hold off Woods Cross Tuesday night, claiming a 51-44 victory.
For Bountiful, Kennedy Merrick was the team’s scoring leader with 12 points, and Tiana Dougher and Ashley Eyring each scored eight points in the region-clinching game.
Woods Cross had two players score in double figures, Camille Horrocks and Hannah Peterson. Horrocks fouled out of the game with less than one minute remaining, but not before scoring 11 points and making six rebounds. Peterson scored 10 points in the loss.
Lady Vikings win, go undefeated in Region 2
The Viewmont Lady Vikings girls’ basketball team finished the season with an undefeated Region 2 record Tuesday night when they took down Kearns 64-35, led by Katie Toole’s 23 points. Toole\also had nine rebounds and eight assists as well.
Viewmont finished the regular season with 19 wins, and will face the fourth seed from Region 1 to open the playoffs Monday at 12:50 p.m.
Lady Darts claim Region 1 crown with win
The Davis High girls’ basketball team became the third school in south Davis County to claim a region title Tuesday night when it beat Fremont 48-36 to finish region play Tuesday night.
Natalie Mecham scored a game-high 17 points for Davis, and Jessica Richardson added 10 points in the Lady Darts’ eighth region win of the season.
Davis will be the No. 1 seed from Region 1 in the 5A playoffs and will play either West or Taylorsville Monday at 11:10 a.m. to open the playoffs.
