STANSBURY PARK — The Woods Cross Wildcats baseball team opened up the new season in a tough spot.

Facing bad weather and a long road trip, the team’s game against Stansbury Tuesday was cut to five innings as they took a 6-1 loss against their former region foe.

Stansbury jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning and never gave the Wildcats a real chance at a comeback. By the end of the fourth inning, the Stallions had built up a 6-0 lead and hadn’t allowed Woods Cross to cross home plate.

In the fourth inning, however, Woods Cross was able to scratch across a run to make the deficit five runs. Both teams played one more inning before the game was called due to inclement weather.

The Stallions were led by Jesse Clingman, who allowed a run on three hits in five innings to pick up the win. Marcos Chacon recorded a triple for the team’s only extra-base hit of the game.

Quinton Fontz took the loss for the Wildcats. Woods Cross allowed six runs on five hits while committing three defensive errors.

Woods Cross has another road game Thursday as the team travels to Skyline for a nonregion game. They’ll follow that game with a pair of games at home against West and Northridge before taking part in the Desert Classic in mid-March.

The Stallions’ will play a series of games at the Pizza Hut Classic at Dixie High School starting Friday morning.
