This year, its likeness will be seen indoors as well, as the featured bird in the student art competition sponsored by the festival.
Students in grades K through 12 are invited to submit an original drawing in color, of an adult black-crowned night heron, drawn on 8.5 by 11 white paper or artboard.
The first place winner will receive $50, with second place being awarded $25 and third, $15.
Submissions are due by April 6, and can be sent to Great Salt Lake Bird Festival, Attention: Student Art Contest, P.O. Box 618, 29 E. State Street in Farmington, UT 84025.
The contest is held “to get students and their families excited about Utah’s incredible bird life and to recognize the talents of young, local artists,” said organizer Neka Roundy.
