CLEARFIELD — Members of the Major Meadows Ward in Clearfield were in a “Fitness Frenzy,” to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Welfare Program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The event, a “Day of Service” for members featured children from the Christmas Box House as the honored guests.

Activities included a huge obstacle course, sprints, three-legged races, tug of war, frisbee golf, long jump, and hotshot basketball. Neighbors and ward members brought needed donations to give to the Christmas Box House.

“It was so much fun,” said Sandy Shea, president of the ward’s Primary organization. “Everyone was outside breathing fresh air and loving it. There were so many things to do and everyone was excited about all the different activities.

“What was super neat was the children from the Christmas Box House, these kids were not a bit shy, they were active and involved, they visited with everyone. It was amazing to witness these children, they were with a hundred strangers and yet totally able to be themselves and have so much fun.”

Ward members gathered boxes of needed donations for the Ogden Christmas Box House, but there is still a great need for basic necessities.

Some of the needed items are clothing, pajamas including shorts and T-shirts, toothpaste, soap, socks, shoes, etc. For a full list of the wish list items for the Christmas Box House call 801-747-2201 or visit their website, thechristmasboxhouse.org.

“The Ogden Christmas Box House is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week emergency shelter for victims of child abuse and neglect. It serves children up to the age of 17. The children who come here receive mental, emotional, and physical help by loving and caring staff members until an appropriate placement has been set up or until their environment at home is safe,” according to the group’s website. There are locations in Ogden, Salt Lake City and Moab.
