Editor:

This November, citizens of Kaysville will have the chance to make a decision that will have far-reaching effects on the community. We will be able to vote on whether or not to bond for a new library. But why do we need to build a new library? It isn't to create some kind of a status symbol for Kaysville. It isn't because, well, golly, Kaysville's always had its own library and we should keep it --although that community legacy is impressive.

It is because the building we have now is simply too small to serve the needs of the city. We need to replace it, and no one is going to just hand us a new, improved, progressive library on a platter. If we want and value a library building and all that it offers as an important part of our community, we're going to have to pay for it. But just look at what we'll get!

The public is invited to information meetings on October 12 and 26 at 7 p.m. in the City Building to find out just what is proposed.

A new library will offer a feast for everyone in our community. But what is the price for such a buffet? Well, for owners of a $130,000 home, it's about the price of a burger and fries once a month. For owners of a $300,000 home, it's about the price of a burrito with all the trimmings once a month. Think about that. Most of us are willing to spend that much money each month on things that simply evaporate --or worse, end up hanging around our waistlines. But imagine what we can have if we apply that money toward something lasting!

A new Kaysville City Library will offer a bounteous feast for each of us. It's time for us all to decide what we're going to put on our plate.
