With a historically low voter turnout during non-presidential elections in Davis County, the committee hopes to affect future turnout with public campaigns designed to provide information and encourage citizens to exercise their public right and duty of being educated and voting on issues that affect every Davis County citizen's life.
As its first action, the committee has launched a Web site, www.davisvotes.com, where vo-ters can seek information.
"We wanted to keep the Web site simple, so we created a clearing house where information related to voting can be found in one place," said Committee Chair Barbara Riddle.
Davis Votes aims to collect information on registration, early voting and other issues, and it also seeks to provide links to existing Web sites. Davis Votes hopes that others will become passionate about voting and is encouraging individuals, businesses, schools and governmental entities to post information on message boards, flyers, employee newsletters, customer receipts and invoices, all of which will help people get out and vote on Nov. 6.
The non-partisan committee suggests that everyone should become informed about the issues and vote. Davis Votes is optimistic that it will see an increase in voter turnout and an informed community.
