DAVIS COUNTY -- Imagine organizing an event with the following inventory: 792 business professionals, 585 participating businesses, 488 wild buffaloes, 336 golf balls, 297 fruit kabobs, 171 fun-run joggers, 135 new members, 100 television productions, 82 state legislators, 75 frozen turkeys, 64 leads luncheons, 52 newsletter editions, 44 ribbon-cutting ceremonies, 32 swashbuckling pirates, 25 hot-air balloons, 23 board members, 15 city mayors, 12 high school football games, five golden shovels, four new staff members, three county commissioners, and one giant pair of scissors. No, it's not the "12 Days of Christmas" gone wild. It's just some of the many talented people and the incredibly varied resources it took to carry out the mission of the Davis Chamber of Commerce in 2007. It's all part of the drive to make the Davis Chamber enterprising, educating, and entertaining for our members.
From the Northern Utah Business Expo to Taste of the Town to the Antelope Island Balloon Stampede to the Gobbler Gallop, the Davis Chamber sponsored community events all year that promoted local businesses and engaged the public. Our legislative affairs meetings, business training seminars, and Davis Cable Channel 17 programming educated Chamber members and the public on business regulations, economic trends, and local enterprises.
The Member-to-Member discount program, ribbon cuttings, and networking lunches solidified existing business relationships and fostered new ones. As a result, 135 new members joined the Chamber in 2007.
Together, Chamber businesses helped drive the Davis economy to record-setting growth and employment rates. And that's all just a sampling of Chamber activities and efforts. The year 2008 will see an increase in the Chamber's influence county-wide as we adopt our new theme for the year: Focus on the FUNdamentals.

DAVIS COUNTY --The 2008 Davis Chamber Leadership Institute begins an exciting six-month course on Jan. 8 with a day-long orientation and team building seminar at the Davis Applied Technology College. Experts in each focus area have been engaged to share their success principals and formulas with program participants. In addition, enrollees will participate in comparative studies of current business philosophies, tour relevant business centers and observe the principles they are studying in action. They will also study and discuss local, county, and state issues that impact business in the region.
The day-long sessions take place every three weeks from January to June. They are designed to build valuable networks between participants while providing a broad prospective on leadership and business management. Upon completion of the regular sessions, class members will put the knowledge and skills they have gained to the test. They will complete a team project designed to benefit local charitable organizations.
"This is an amazing opportunity for local businesses to dramatically increase the performance of key employees. It will also enhance the standing and recognition of participating organizations within the Davis County business community," said Bill Cochran who is Program Development Ad-ministrator for Weber State University and who also chairs the Leadership Institute committee for the Davis Chamber.
