"It is difficult for me to resign," said Pitt during Tuesday's meeting, "but I am excited to serve not only the people of Bountiful, but all the people of Davis County.
Pitt, who ran for Bountiful's City Council after having an upsetting experience with a crossing guard, spent much of his time while on the council focused on organizing the downtown merchants and leading the city's youth council.
"John came every Wednesday to advise the youth council," said councilman Richard Higginson "I really respect all that he's done."
"You have been a breath of fresh air, " said Councilwoman Barbara Holt, "You have brought positive enthusiasm to the council."
Pitt's wife, Wendy, also took a turn, saying, "I would like to thank the City Council and the city staff. It has been an honor for our family to be a part of the council."
In the end, Pitt thanked the city council, city staff and the citizens of Bountiful.
"Thank you everyone," Pitt said, "I have loved serving on the council and I am grateful for the opportunity. I will continue serving the city of Bountiful and now all of Davis County in my new position at the Chamber of Commerce."
