KAYSVILLE -- After more than 20 years, the east side of downtown Main Street is due to get a "makeover." The city council has approved a redo of the sidewalk, planting of trees and installation of decorative light poles. City Planner Scott Messel said the improvements will be installed from 50 South to 200 North. "We will remove five feet of concrete," he said. "There is 10 feet of concrete there now. We'll be running new conduits, installing the light poles and then will replant trees." A sprinkler system will also be installed to water the honey locusts that will be planted, Messel said.

About $130,000 has been appropriated, and business owners and impacted residents will not have to pay any of the cost, he said.

As more funds become available, additional improvements will be made, such as benches and site furniture.

"We may eventually try to do more of this same sort of thing around town," Messel said.

Work should be started fairly soon.
