Note: This was written prior to the Nov. 2 vote but not received in time for publication. Key parts are printed here because they answer questions about the library's status.

Editor:

Kaysville City will not join the Davis County Library system if the bond is defeated, despite what bond opponents want you to believe. The Board decided to remain independent because the county will not commit to maintaining a branch in Kaysville and cannot build us the larger facility we need to offer full library services. Joining the county would mean paying the county library tax with no guarantee of local library services.

The bond is a separate issue, and the result has no bearing on Kaysville remaining a city library. That decision was made after literally years of discussion, investigating options and attempts to negotiate with the county.

We will remain a city library. Defeating the bond simply means we will continue to deal with cramped conditions as best we can and fundraising efforts will continue. The new facility will be delayed by several years. Passing the bond means a glorious new building in 2006 with more computers, more services, and more than double the selection of materials.
