LAYTON — Layton Hills Healthy Smile Center got more than they bargained for when Davis trick-or-treaters sold back more than 650 pounds of candy at $2 a pound. The buy-back event was held the day after Halloween until Friday, Nov. 4. “We collected more than 200 pounds of candy in the first day,” said Anna Young with the Layton Hills Healthy Smile Center. “Dr. Preece had hoped to buy back 200 pounds total, but thought 100 pounds was more likely.” “The money Dr. Preece set aside for the buy-back was gone within an hour-and-a-half of the beginning of the event,” said Young.
By mid-week, because of such high demand, the Layton Hills Healthy Smile Center put a five-pound limit on how much candy they would buy back from each child.
Total, the Dr. Preece paid trick-or-treaters $1200 for the candy. The treats were donated to the Primary Children’s Hospital to go to decorating for December’s ‘Festival of Trees.’
