Editor:

I would like to publicly ask Centerville City how they could let the courts at Smoot Park get in such poor condition. There are cracks running every direction on the courts. The surface is chipped and/or peeling. They have an uneven surface which creates pockets for the water that is always running onto them. A few summers ago Centerville City simply locked the courts up stating that they were unsafe. Then they presumably repaired them. Within weeks the cracks were back and they became more unusable. Now these cracks are causing uneven surfaces and there are weeds growing right on the court.

If city officials think that the courts don't get enough use it isn't that Centerville doesn't have a large number of tennis players. Centerville's tennis players simply go to Farming-ton where the courts are well kept. Centerville City would do well to look into the repairs and maintenance that Bountiful City and Farmington City give their courts.

Centerville City, let us have safe courts to play on.
