LAYTON -- Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper was the keynote speaker at a recent "Focus on Defense" symposium at the Davis Conference Center. It was sponsored by the Air Force Association and provided interaction between the Department of Defense and defense industry leadership. Discussion centered on delivering combat support to the expeditionary forces serving Afghanistan and Iraq. "We got it wrong in the 1980s. All of our Cold War weaknesses have been exposed," he said. "We operate in a much different world than any of us ever expected to see.

"We are spending billions of dollars and hundreds of coalition forces to find and disarm improvised explosive devices that threaten our convoys," Jumper said. "We should be looking at getting these trucks off the road. That's where collaboration and connectivity come into play."

Residents can tell views in survey

HILL AIR FORCE BASE -- Prior to recently approved privatization of Hill Air Force Base housing, residents can express their views via a survey.

Air Force Material Command is partnering with CEL and Associates to obtain residents' views and concerns.

"The homes are about to be privatized and the responses will be beneficial not only to the base leadership but also the developer," said Doug Arave, housing flight chief.

The program goal is to gauge residents' satisfaction with their homes in categories from common area and playground appearance to wait times for maintenance concerns.
