CENTERVILLE -- If all goes as planned, Wal-Mart will be ready to start building by October 1,2005. Finally, after a year-long battle with Center-ville officials and citizens, the retail giant could have its way. "It all depends on whether Wal-Mart and city officials can agree on the development agreement," said Steve Thacker Centerville City Manager. "It's been two weeks since they came up with a second draft. Now the draft is under review." Wal-Mart will approach the planning commission with the final subdivision plan in July. If all goes well with the planning commission, Wal-Mart will approach the city council in August.
"The development agreement will hopefully be ap-proved at the same time as the subdivision plan," Thacker said. "After all the conditions are met, Wal-Mart will submit the final plan for the building permit by September 1 and start building October 1."
The process of moving a Wal-Mart into Centerville started in March 2004. Wal-Mart is expected to open its doors sometime in fall of 2006.
