SALT LAKE CITY -- John Harmer of Bountiful reiterated that "pornography is a war we must win" at a Legacy Network summit last week. A former California Lt. Governor, Harmer spoke to nearly 100 community leaders about the spread of pornography at the Legacy Network's first ever Leadership Summit. As an attorney in 1964, Harmer charged six individuals with producing lewd and lascivious images. "The material I convicted these individuals for back then can now be bought today on any newsstand," said Harmer. Harmer first started combatting pornography 40 years ago. "At one time what was a $30 million industry is now a $15 billion industry," said Harmer. Currently pornography is produced in seven major areas: the motion picture, music, magazine, television, video, Internet and cell phone industries, according to Harmer.

"Kids can look at pornography now on their cell phones walking home from school," said Harmer.

The former Lt. Governor encouraged summit participants to donate to the Legacy Law and Family Action Foundation.

Funds contributed would enable more attorneys to pursue obscenity cases against the billion-dollar porn industry.

The Legacy Network's purpose is to educate and raise awareness among responsible citizens on public policy issues compatible with traditional family values and to train legal professionals to strategize, advocate and litigate for principle-based family policies in the public square.

Harmer is the author of four published books. "A War We Must Win," which recounts his battles against pornography, is among his literary works.

Harmer has recently made local and national news in his war on pornography.

"It's not one big battle. It is a daily grind," said Quinn McKay, Ph.D, another speaker at the summit. "It is worth the wrestle."

JoAnn Hamilton, founder of Bountiful's Citizens for Families, will be honored by the Legacy Network at the next award dinner in May.
