FARMINGTON -- Maybe now's the time to formalize savings goals by becoming a free member of "Utah Saves." Those signing up within the next two weeks can receive a free matinee movie pass for a March 3 showing at the Century 16 Theatres in Salt Lake City.

Next week, which is being observed as "UtahSaves Week '07," a variety of free classes are being offered, including one in Farmington, Tuesday, Feb. 27. Free movie passes will be given to all workshop attendees.

The "Top 10 Investment Scams for 2007" will be held Feb. 27, 6-7:30 p.m. in Room 230 at the Davis County Memorial Courthouse, Room 230, and is free. It will feature Wayne Klein, director of the Utah State Division of Securities. To RSVP call 801-736-7721.

Other classes offered include: "Get Checking," Tuesday, Feb. 27, and Thursday, March 1, 6-8 p.m. at the AAA Fair Credit Foundation, 230 W. 200 S., Room 3104, Salt Lake City. RSVP by calling 483-0999. It deals with learning basic banking skills and financial and money management principles.

"Money Matters in Marriage" will be Wednesday, Feb. 28, 6:30-8 p.m., Salt Lake County Council Chambers, 2001 S. State, Room #N1100, Salt Lake. RSVP at 736-7721.

"Sensible Shopping: Finding the Best Bargains" will be Thursday, March 1, noon-1 p.m., at the Northern Utah Red Cross Training Room, 2955 Harrison Blvd., Room 201, Ogden. RSVP at 801-399-5384.

"Insider Travel Secrets: What the airlines, cruise lines and hotels don't want you to know: Chic on a Shoestring," will be Thursday, March 1, 6-8 p.m., Salt Lake Main Library, 210 E. 400 S., Level 4 Conference Room, RSVP at 736-7721.

"You're much more likely to save if you take that step" to formalize it, and set a goal, said Joanne Roueche, Utah State University Davis County consumer education agent.

"There is a monthly incentive to encourage people to save," she said. "It's making a commitment to change the way you live. It's important for our economy, to keep it working, and to improve our personal financial situation," she said.

The United Way initiative also includes savings offers by Zions Bank and AAA Fair Credit Foundation.
