"You're much more likely to save if you take that step" to formalize it, and set a goal, said Joanne Roueche, Utah State University Davis County consumer education agent.
"There is a monthly incentive to encourage people to save," she said. "It's making a commitment to change the way you live. It's important for our economy, to keep it working, and to improve our personal financial situation," she said.
The United Way initiative also includes savings offers by Zions Bank and AAA Fair Credit Foundation.
