LAYTON -- Longtime Davis County businesswoman and community supporter Fran Brown received the Athena Award Thursday, Oct. 19. She was due to receive the Davis Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Professional Leadership recognition at noon at the Castlebrook Reception Center in Layton.

She was selected to receive this ninth annual Athena Award from among several outstanding nominations.

The award is presented to an outstanding individual who has achieved excellence in his or her profession, has served the community in a meaningful way and has assisted women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills.

Brown is the owner of Fran Brown College of Beauty and Fran Brown Salon, and started her first salon in Kaysville in the mid-1970s, where she was very active in the then-Kaysville-Fruit Heights Chamber of Commerce.
