Close to 200 individuals showed up to tour the sports facility during an open house recently held at the new Eagleridge Tennis and Swim Club. North Salt Lake's first sports club will specialize in tennis. The tents to be used over the tennis courts are the first of their kind in Utah. The tennis courts will be equipped with ambient heat (the heat will come from the ground up). The tent will serve to trap the heat inside in the winter. In the summer the tent flaps will be rolled up to allow air to circulate through while providing shade for the tennis players, according to Brad Ferreira, the club's owner.
"It will be nice because you won't have all the noise that you typically have with bubbles, which blow air through the walls to keep the structure up," said Ferreira.
Ferreira is anxious to see the club completed. He has spent several years driving to Ogden to teach tennis because there was nowhere to instruct locally.
The upper level of the building will include cardio equipment, an aerobic room, a nursery and a kids club. The main level includes viewing lounges and a juice bar with a window to serve pool loungers. The lower level will have weight equipment, locker rooms and a steam room.
Club members can watch family members and friends swim or play tennis outside while they sit inside the club house.
While the first swimming pool is a junior olympic size, the other pool is smaller for children.
A little over half of the memberships have already been sold and close to 175 memberships are still available to the public. The club will be for members only, however, non-members will be allowed be participate in tennis lessons at the facility, according to Ferreira.
Eagleridge Tennis and Swim Club is located at 711 Parkway Drive. Open hours will be 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
