KAYSVILLE -- The Bountiful/Davis Art Center is looking for families to host international performers for its Bountiful Summerfest International to be held in August. Emma Dugal, Bountiful/Davis Arts Center Programs Coordinator and Coordinator for Bountiful Summerfest International, told the Kaysville City Council recently that volunteer host families are essential to the success of the event. Several Kaysville families have volunteered in past years. "We have families that do it every year and wouldn't miss it. They even take their vacation during that time," said Dugal. "But, we need more." Summerfest is an annual event sponsored by the Bountiful/Davis Arts Center, and up to 10 international performing groups, including musicians and dancers, are invited to perform at the event each year. The groups finance their own travel costs and are housed with host families in the community throughout their stay. Host families provide room and board to the performers as well as transportation to and from the event.
The event will be held this year Aug. 10-12, and performers will arrive on Aug. 6 and 7. They will stay with their host families until August 13 or 14. "It is actually quite a commitment, but it is rewarding," explained Dugal.
Despite on-going construction of the new recreation center, Bountiful Summerfest will be held at the City Park. In addition to the international performing groups, the event will feature artist, crafts and ethnic food booths as well as a children's art yard.
"It is a wonderful cultural event," Dugal told the Kaysville council. "It is a worthwhile event and it is just something we hope will continue."
