CENTERVILLE -- The Davis Chamber of Commerce may have already conducted its annual Gobbler Gallop 5K Fun Run, but area residents can still take part in the most important aspect of the event. County residents looking for a way to help the needy this holiday season can sponsor a turkey dinner for an area family. For a donation of only $20, a sponsored family will receive a Norbest turkey certificate that can be redeemed at any local grocery store.

This is the 25th year the Davis Chamber has conducted the program, helping needy families during the holidays. Though the actual Gobbler Gallop Fun Run was held back on Nov. 13, the chamber is continuing the turkey give-away portion of the program this month.

"We all know the holidays can be an especially difficult time for those in need," said Chamber President and CEO Chris Dallin. "By sponsoring a family you can help lift their burden and their spirits."

The program is not limited to members of the chamber. All area residents may participate by contacting the chamber offices, 500 North Marketplace Drive, #202, in Centerville. They can also access the chamber's Web site -- daviscc@

"Turkey order forms can be obtained there," explained Dallin, "then returned later with your donation."

As a way of adding a more personal touch to the gift, chamber officials are asking donors to include a letter or holiday card that can be sent to the family they have sponsored.

Area residents with further questions about donating a turkey to a needy family are asked to call the Davis Chamber of Commerce, 295-6944.

"We'd like to thank all those who have already supported the program," said Dallin, "and hope others will continue to volunteer their assistance during the holiday season."

The turkey give-away program is just one of many ways the Davis Chamber of Commerce acts to fulfill its charter, including uniting the business community, providing leadership for business owners, advancing business prosperity and sustaining a vibrant economy in Davis County.

At this time, the chamber is also seeking out businesses that particularly reflect these and other ideals. Selected businesses will be recognized at the annual awards luncheon in January.

The categories businesses can be nominated for are:

- Chamber Advocacy

- Unite the Business Community

- Advance Business Prosperity

- Sustain a Vibrant Economy

Chamber members are encouraged to nominate businesses that fit within one of the above categories. Nominations can be made by calling the chamber, 295-6944, or by e-mail, daviscc@davischamberof
