BOUNTIFUL — After two days of grinding out birdies, pars, and a bogey here and there, Viewmont Vikings golfer Kelton Hirsch walked out of the Alpine Country Club with an individual state 5A title.

Hirsch also helped the team finish second, winning a playoff over region foe Syracuse.

Hirsch, who shot a second round 70, finished with a two-day total of 143. Lone Peak’s Cameron Web, West’s Austin Banz and Marshall Harris, and Fremont’s Dylan Chugg each shot a 145 total, placing in a tie for second.

One of Hirsch’s teammates, Boston Watts, placed inside the top 20 after shooting rounds of 75 and 78, placing 17th overall.

Watts, along with Davis High School’s Dane Nelson, Brayden Ross and Nate Burnett, all tied for 17th place.

Viewmont’s Jayce Frampton finished just outside the top 20. His two-day total of 154 was good enough to tie for 22nd place.

As a team, the Vikings shot a 305 in the second round, and their two-day total of 605 initially tied them with Syracuse. Viewmont won the playoff to officially place second.

Davis High School battled back from its seventh place position after day one. With a team score of 302, that bumped them up to a top five finish, placing fourth.

In the 4A State tournament, played at the Ogden Golf and Country Club, Timpview was crowned the state champion after posting a two-day total of 613, four shots better than Bonneville.

Woods Cross, which started the second day in fifth place, dropped three spots to ultimately finish in eighth place.

The team’s two-day total of 654 was six strokes better than Timpanogos, and only one stroke behind Murray, which finished seventh.

After shooting the low round on the team Monday, Austin Creer shot a 93 on Tuesday.

Kyle Beard shot a 77-79 for a total of 156, and finished inside the top 20 individually.

The most consistent player for the Wildcats was Jordan Lewis, who shot matching 84’s and finished in the top 50 among all individuals.

Lewis and Creer placed 43rd and 44th, respectively.

Orem, Maple Mountain and Olympus rounded out the top five finishers.

Bonneville’s Carson Park won the individual title with a two-day total of 142.

Maple Mountain’s Kai Ruiz, Corner Canyon’s Rhett Rasmussen, Spanish Fork’s Benson Rhees and Logan’s Justin Kim were the top five placers.
