FARMINGTON – Police from Clearfield and Syracuse arrested two men on the same exact charges Tuesday night, booking both on six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Mulford Harmon Aycock, a 35-year-old man, was booked into the Davis County Jail on 7:39 p.m. Tuesday night by the Syracuse Police Department.
Clearfield Police arrested Michael Wayne Smith, a 41-year-old, and booked him into the jail approximately 15 minutes later.
Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Commander Jessica Farnsworth told the Clipper that the charges against Aycock and Smith were not related, and that both were arrested following an ICAC investigation.
Farnsworth said both men were being prosecuted separately by the Davis County Attorney's Office.
"They were arrested on the same night because that's when the warrants were issued," said Farnsworth, who referred the Clipper to the county attorney's office for any other details about the investigations.
Court documents also show that both men were formally charged with six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, based on evidence that linked them to downloading child pornography.
Court records show that Aycock appeared in court on Friday, and that he was assigned legal counsel. An arraignment was set for May 20.
Michael Wayne Smith was also scheduled to appear in court on Friday, but no other information was immediately available.
