We look to our past for understanding, not to make excuses for our lives. We look to our past with compassion, not pain and guilt. We often find ourselves in a space of not knowing what to do with our lives at any given moment. We sometimes 'hit a wall' so to speak. We don't know where we are headed and have no inspiration on how to live our lives so that we can be happier. We can make excuses until the day we die, but in the end, it’s not the things we suffer that matter, but our ability to forgive and love.
Our hearts are the first things to beat when we begin life. It is the heart that stops beating last when we die. It is the longest living organ we have. Babies live in their hearts. That's why it's so easy to love babies. When you hold a baby, you can easily connect with them. Your heart softens as you smile, laugh, share joy and sometimes, have the need to ‘baby talk’. Think of the last time you heard a baby giggle with delight. How can you not smile along? It’s contagious! They know nothing but love. When you choose to close your heart, that's what causes the pain. It may seem the opposite is true. You may think that to protect your heart from pain, you must shut it down, but that is the very cause of the hurt in the first place. If you keep your heart open, you allow the energy of love to flow. Healing is an energy. It needs constant flow. It needs love as fuel. Electricity, or energy, can only be generated through power. Spinning fans, or powerful water flow. If you stop the energy, there is no flow. If love doesn’t have power, or flow, it becomes stagnant and without life force. Your heart can become hardened with no energy flow. There may be an experience in your life that caused you to close your heart; maybe in early childhood or even as an adult. The longer the heart is closed, the thicker and higher the walls become, and the more difficult to break them down.
You have the ability to heal your past. Look at your past with compassion on those who have hurt you, and also on yourself. Every day of your life is a gift. Find the gift and you will find love. Do you have resentments? Anger? Are you blaming someone? Has someone hurt you and you have been unable or unwilling to forgive? Will you see the benefit of releasing them? Find some time to journal the answers to these questions and unlock the power of love in your own life.
