Syracuse Arts Academy
Syracuse Arts Academy is a charter school that incorporates art into everyday learning.
Syracuse Arts Academy helps the kids that love art still learn just as in the public schools.
“Art joins the two sides of the brain, so you are more likely to remember”, said Sharon McGarry, the seventh and eighth grade science teacher.
The school has many electives that you can take to teach you about the arts. SAA has band, drama, ceramics, choir, debate, and so much more.
Teachers incorporate drawing, acting, and even some music into the lesson plans. Seventh grade art humanities teacher, Jill Gerrish, says that when you incorporate art into learning, you take some of the best things that have been and make them “better”. She says that the stories and pictures are so amazing, that she doesn’t have to get the kids excited to love it.
The pictures do it for themselves. She said she thinks everyone loves to learn through the arts. They find out more about themselves.
Syracuse Arts Academy has many competitions that teach kids about the arts. They have a music festival where students will get a positive experience with music and performing, says Rachel Willis, the head organizer. The academy also does poetry contests, drawing contests, and much more.
