KAYSVILLE – The Davis High School Darts girls’ soccer team has been on a scoring tear recently.
After netting 10 goals against Logan Tuesday, the Lady Darts scored another 10 goals Thursday afternoon against Ben Lomond, and notched their fourth win in a row to open the season.
“We played two pretty difficult games before (this week),” said Darts coach Souli Phongsavath. “I was a little disappointed in this game because we didn’t play well the first 15 to 20 minutes.”
By the 20th minute, Davis was already up 3-0, and added three goals in a three minute span to take a 6-0 lead by the 31st minute. By that time, Regyn Youngberg had scored two of her three goals in the match, and Haley Stafford scored both of her goals to help the Darts take an 8-0 halftime lead.
Davis scored two more goals by the time the mercy rule kicked in, ending the game 30 minutes early.
“We scored 10 goals, and we finished well,” said Phongsavath. “We would have liked to have played 80 minutes, but we had some tough opponents before these last two games, so I’m not as concerned about playing an entire game.”
Davis has yet to allow a goal and have 26 total goals in all four of their preseason games.
Phongsavath said it was more important to have his players healthy than to play an entire game heading into Region 1 play. On Tuesday, Davis opens region play against rival Viewmont at Viewmont High School.
“It is a big game,” said Phongsavath. “We’ve built it up to be a big game, and it’s a rival, so we know it will be a difficult game. I think it will be good for us because it will help us set the tone for the rest of the season.”
Youngberg’s hat trick gives her five goals for the season. Maddie Garlock, Rachel Roddas and Ireland Dunn each scored a single goal in the win.
Davis finished preseason play with a 4-0 record. Sarah Beecher picked up her fourth shutout at the net.
Davis will travel to Viewmont Tuesday. Kickoff is 3:30 p.m.
